The new iPhone commercial from Apple has arrived on TV, showcasing the ability of its iOS platform, along with iOS connected smart home hardware and apps designed and aimed specifically at parenting
It has been reported that Apple’s recent series of TV commercials have not been created by TBWA’s Media Arts Lab, the company Apple usually turns to for any of its iOS product ads, instead Apple have “kept it in the family” so to speak, by utilizing the skills of their in-house advertising team
The iPhone and iOS platform are the focus of this latest TV commercial, along with the range of possibilities for parent and child interaction by connecting with smart home hardware and apps, enabling parents to both educate and play with their children. Fun apps shown include Drawnimal, which teaches the alphabet to children as they play a game and MyTeeth, which teaches children to brush their teeth in the correct way
FaceTime is also highlighted as a way in which parents can keep connected with their offspring, even when they are in different parts of the world. To turn on FaceTime go to Settings > Tap FaceTime > Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime > Enter your Apple ID and password > Tap Sign In, your phone number and all email addresses will be displayed > Tap Next > Select the email addresses and phone numbers you want people to use to contact you for FaceTime calls > Scroll down to Caller ID > Select the email address or phone number you want to be displayed during your outgoing FaceTime calls
HealthKit and HomeKit also appeared during the TV commercial, although these will not arrive until the launch of iOS 8. HealthKit is a fitness tracker and monitoring device. We mentioned HealthKit in a recent article, this is the product that has caused a bit of a stir in Australia where the name already belongs to a two year old start up company who are running almost the exact same product, they insist they are not going to roll over and lie down so we may well be mentioning this again in the future. HomeKit will monitor and control any iOS connected home hardware and software. Also featured in the commercial were the Nike+ Running app and the Kinsa Smartphone Thermometer, along with Withing’s Smart Baby Monitor and the Withings WithBaby app
The TV commercial was set to “Life of Dreams” by Julie Dioron
